Saint Romain is a village that too often gets lost in the shuffle in Burgundy. Set in a cleft above Meursault, it sometimes seems in its own little world, isolated from the rest of Burgundy, where the vineyards are colder and take several weeks longer to ripen. If this powerful Chardonnay is any indication, we should all make a little more room for Saint Romain in our cellars. Classic touches of lemon curd and blooming spring flowers mix on the nose, while the palate offers creamy notes of apple, pear, and orange with razor sharp acidity. Delicious now, but capable of some time on its side in the cellar.
