Appellation
Amyndeon lies in the (even more) mountainous northern part of Greece. It is an alpine Valley with elevations between 700 and 850 meters, where cold nights follow sunny days, and to further accentuate the cool climate effects, the best vineyards face north and west. The “Hedgehog” vineyard – Σκατζόχοιρος or Skatzóchoiros – is the best site of the region, a sandy plot of 90 year old vines, home to a native protected species of hedgehog.

The Wine
Beautiful nose of wild strawberry, black pepper, and blackberry, palate is pure, lithe, with fresh red fruits and an airy, delicate finish. Begrudgingly compared to Valtellina Nebbiolo or Hautes Cotes de Beaune Pinot Noir.
