Clos Cibonne is in Provence and famous for their rose wines, but these are truly unlike any other Provençal rose wines. Their wines are made almost exclusively from the Tibouren grape, a clone of the Rossese grape that most Ligurian red wines are made of just across the border. Tibouren lends itself perfectly to rose wines, since it offers delicate texture and ripens with plenty of acidity while developing a wild and complex set of aromas and flavors that takes in both the fresh raspberry and strawberry fruits of great rose, and a deep savory component of garrigue endemic to the Mediterranean coast. Clos Cibonne handles the wines carefully through the winemaking process to ensure an elegantly textured wine with layer upon layer of subtle touches and grace notes that even most Bandols don't bother with. Year after year, this is our favorite rose from anywhere, and this is the rare rose that's intended for a bit of age, if you can stay away from it!
