Alberto Orte was born in Madrid, but family connections brought him south to vineyards in southern Spain, eventually to Cadiz, where his interests in winemaking, growing, and history converged. Like many growers in the region, he was confounded by the disconnect between the potential of the area and the perception. His winery, focused on the blinding white seaside Albariza soils outside Cadiz, is an exploration of terroir that often gets lost in the making of traditional Sherry. For the Atlantida Blanco, he has revived the nearly extinct Vijiriega Blanca grape that offers more acidity and fruit definition than Palomino. There's a sense of Atlantic seabreeze here; there's sharp cut citrus notes, citrus flowers, and a creamy note thanks to some time in oak.
